Magic of Opera Concert by Encore Opera

Magic of Opera Concert by Encore Opera at Crosscrake Church

Encore Opera, which regularly rehearses in St Thomas’ church, gave a fabulous performance in Crosscrake Church on Sunday 6th November. Their “Magic of Opera” concert opera featured favourites such as the Pearl Fishers’ duet, the Toreador’s Song and the Habanera from Carmen and many other pieces from the most famous and well known operas.

The concert raised over £650 for church funds. People in attendance commented on what a wonderful performance it was and a great afternoon was had by all. Many thanks to the members of Encore Opera from all at Crosscrake Church.

Encore, formed by opera enthusiasts to bring concerts of opera out of the theatres and into the community, has a unique combination of voices which produces a very special and unforgettable sound.

Every concert performed is delivered with passion and precision. The music is dramatized and the repertoire is constantly changing so that each concert experienced will be a unique one.

Harvest Festival Flowers at Crosscrake

Harvest Festival Flowers at Crosscrake

The church was looking beautiful again this Harvest-time with the addition of wonderful flower displays by the team of volunteers. We managed to get a few snaps of them working to create the fabulous displays that always make the church look so vibrant and welcoming. Our thanks to the whole team for their efforts in creating such wonderful displays.

The harvest service on the 2nd October was well attended and included generous donations of food for the food bank, collected by the church congregation and the school. Thank you to everybody who so generously supported the Harvest Appeal. Cheques amounting to £600 have been sent for the Bishop’s Appeal.

Petronal Festival Service

Petronal Festival Service on the Millenium Field

The special Petronal Festival service on the millenium field in Sedgwick was attended by a large congregation from the surrounding area. Despite the weather taking a turn for the worse, spirits were not dampened as we all moved into the village hall to complete the service. There was some concern for Mike and his waterlogged electric piano, but we are pleased to say he survived the experience without any explosions!

Thanks to all who attended.

Christian Aid week at Crosscrake

Christian Aid Week at Crosscrake

The coffee morning and cake sale at Crosscrake to support Christian Aid week 2022 raised £755 for the cause. As you can see from the photo, a beautiful array of cakes were on offer and a ‘Guess the weight of the cake’ competition brought in a wide range of guesses. Thanks to all those who took part and gave so generously to the cause.

Christian Aid week 2022 aims to help families in Zimbabwe battling drought and poverty. Find out more about Christian Aid week here on the Christian Aid website.

Palm Sunday service with a very special visitor

Palm Sunday service with a very special visitor

The Palm Sunday service took place this morning at Crosscrake Church with a very special visit from Winston the Donkey. Winston, who comes from nearby Raines Hall Farm, the home of the Maize Maze, delighted the congregation as the service, led by Rev. Terry and Rev. Lucy, commenced outside the church with a Palm Sunday reading and distribution of palm crosses, before heading into the church building for the rest of the service.

Winston has been a regular Palm Sunday guest at the church for many years and we were very pleased to see him again today and grateful to the family at Raines Hall for bringing him along. He seemed to enjoy his visit, basking in the glorious Cumbrian sunshine and chewing on some tasty Crosscrake grass, but he was unavailable to comment personally, mainly due to the fact he is a donkey.

Thanks to everyone who attended (Winston included) for making it such a special Palm Sunday service.
