Lent Lunches 2019

Lent Lunches 2019

Our annual lent lunches took place at Sedgwick Village Hall on 4 consecutive Wednesdays in March and April.

The lunches raised over £1,000 which was shared between South Lakeland Carers and Crosscrake Community Hub.

The lunches provide us with an enjoyable social occasion as well as an opportunity to raise money for useful causes.

Christmas Tree Festival at Crosscrake

Christmas Tree Festival at Crosscrake

Crosscrake Church Chistmas Tree Festival 2018

15 local organisations including the Crosscrake Choir, Crosscrake Men’s Group, Guides, Brownies, The Tots, Mother’s Union and Crosscrake School volunteered to take part in the Crosscrake Christmas Tree festival 2018, by decorating a Christmas tree.

In addition, there was a special memory tree, which offered people a way to remember a loved one.

The 15 trees were displayed proudly in the church from Sunday 16th December to Thursday 27th December and the church was open daily for people to come and look at the beautiful displays.

Thanks to all those involved, who donated and decorated the trees to such great effect, making the church extra welcoming and beautifully decorated throughout this special season.

Remembrance Weekend 2018

Remembrance Weekend 2018

The centenary of the armistice of World War One was recognised by the people of Crosscrake and neighbouring parishes with a splendid weekend of remembrance, service and celebration.

The brainchild of Sedgwick and Stainton Parish Councils, the weekend was hosted at Crosscrake Church.

Starting on Friday evening, a centenary celebration concert was given at Crosscrake Church by Burneside Brass Band. The concert was extremely well attended by a full audience and was enjoyed by all.

On Saturday, the church was opened to the public for an exhibition of personal wartime memorabilia, showing the personal stories of local people and how they were individually affected by the first world war.

A slideshow of pictures, footage and songs of the era was projected onto the church wall throughout, adding the atmosphere of the time to the exhibition.

On Remembrance Sunday Morning, over 200 people gathered for a special service attended by the uniformed organisations and local parishioners. The service concluded with the two minutes silence followed by the last post at the cenotaph in the church grounds.

At twelve midday, the exhibition in the church reo-opened.

An early evening service was held, led by Rev Graham Skilling, with the schoolchildren of Crosscrake School and memories and reflections from Chris Day and David Willacy.

Following the service, the congregation proceeded to the field above the church for  the last post and lighting of a beacon. On a cold November evening, everyobne then came back down to the church, where hot drinks and food were being served to all.

The whole weekend was a magnificent reflection on the community spirit which exists in Stainton and Sedgwick. Our thanks go to the two parish councils for organising it so well.
